7 Habits of Highly Successful Students

1.They set Goals.
What are your goals for this school year?  Take a minute and write down 5 goals you have for this year and put them somewhere safe.
Review these goals at the end of the year to see if you accomplished them and check them off.
Typical Student Goals:
        Graduate high school
        Pass this grade
        Stay out of detention
        Make the athletic team
Maintain a B average in math
        Make new friends
Measurable Goals.
Once you set your goal, make sure it is not so easy to achieve that you don’t have to challenge yourself.
But, don’t make it so out of reach that it is impossible.
What can I do next time to get closer to my goal?
2. They Plan Their Time
Of course you have a life, probably sporting events, social engagements, and t.v./computer time.
But don’t forget your time for studying and homework.
Keep a calendar with your events listed on it so you can better manage your time.
3.They Study Everyday
        Yuck, Sounds brutal!
BUT, if you read or study a short amount of time each night you will absorb it more than cramming the night before the test.
It also helps you to be prepared for the next day’s class discussion.  Who couldn’t use some brownie points with the teacher by being able to participate in discussion time.
4.They take notes in class
Guess what?  If a teacher takes the time to write something on the board, he/she wants you to write it down, too.
Many teachers take most of the test questions from things they went over in the class discussion.
Organization is key.  You must be able to READ and FIND what you are looking for in your notebook.
Read over the material each night.  See Habit #3!
5.They have the supplies and books they need
Listen! Nothing screams I don’t care about my grade in this class to a teacher like showing up unprepared.
Make sure you have the notebook and books you need.  If you have to borrow paper and pencils from classmates it can be distracting to the teacher and other students and you may have to search for that stray paper later when you have your notebook for studying.
Really, do you want to start off on the wrong foot with your teacher?
6.They keep their commitments.
        Highly Successful students follow through.
Make sure you complete all your assignments.
Make sure you accomplish what you told others you would do.  Your word is very important.
7.They get ready ahead of time.
Don’t wait until the last minute.  Prepare ahead of time so that if something comes up, you won’t be thrown off balance.
Accomplish the task and THEN reward yourself.

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little......"Extra."
